There have been many negative and contradicting about this body “ritual” so to speak that we know as Yoga. What do we really know about it? People bending and twisting in uncomfortable seeing ways, or is it just closing your eyes and saying “oommm”. On the contrary, despite having several styles, yoga has several benefits. Today, Ms. Ashanti Garcia, ‘The Airbender’ opened my eyes to what yoga can truly do for a person. Yoga is a discipline that unites the mind body and spirit. Yoga settles the mind and emotions and teaches you how to breathe efficiently which then evidently teaches you to control what can affect your stress level. This then allows for improvements of moods because of course, the less stress someone has the better mood they would be in. As mentioned before, yoga gets the body in shape, this drastically raises improves self-esteem especially in women. Ms. Garcia mentioned that yoga took away her fear of being upside down. I believe that there are many other fears it may take away. If yoga increases strength it would take away the fear of getting hurt. If someone’s self-esteem is high then they love themselves and that takes away the fear of not being accepted. Concentration and focus are things that we struggles with on a daily basis at work, at home or at school. According to Ms. Garcia meditation in yoga teaches you to focus on a single thought and teaches you to concentrate on balance and clear your mind. This would settle our minds and allow up to be more in-tuned in our daily lives. Lastly, yoga teaches you to keep calm. Breathing exercises are a big part of yoga and breathing and focus are a big part in having patience. Yoga can teach us to control our breathing in difficult times as well as balance our emotions and gives us more patience to
