In “Wrong assumptions,” Art Cullen, an editor of The Storm Lake Times, disputed Gov. Terry Branstad’s strategy to resolve the problems of polluted landscapes and contaminated water in Des Moines, Iowa. As a citizen of Iowa, Cullen is concern about the effects the controversy might influence not only his daily life but also the residents and community. Based on an employee attendance reward, it makes the company feels s/he cares about his or her job. Also it helps the employee protect his or her job. However, the employee empowerment makes the employee feels s/he has been trusted by the organization.
Critical thinking is a high level of cognitive skills that helps us communicate and understand things effectively. In the You Tube video "Stossel Testing Therapeutic Touch," I found it was really interesting how the participants were given a placebo and yet most of them felt all these beneficial sleep changes. The power of the mind is amazing because if you believe it will work most likely you will feel that it did. My mother has all these crazy beliefs and I recall when I was bout 8 years old a bee stung me on my hand. I was crying and my mom told me if I wanted to get rid of the pain I had to get a pregnant woman to rub sugar on the wound.
James Dashner’s dystopian book, “The Eye of Minds,” takes place in the Virtnet, a virtual reality used to escape the real world. Michael, a user of the Virtnet, is asked for help. The VNS needed to find a gamer named Kaine, who has been causing chaos in the Virtnet. To complete the task at hand, Michael comes in contact with many obstacles. Because of this, he has to be determined to defeat Kaine, and bring the Virtnet back to sanity.
Prejudice is defined as a “preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience”. These preconceived judgments often lead to people being discriminated. We have seen this throughout all our history. To Kill a Mockingbird shows the effects of prejudice. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee uses Bob Ewell and Tom Robinson to portray that prejudiced views cause racism.

Laziness is a trait that the human race possess by nature. That being said, people are most likely to search for the most economical ways to move about or do things (Oaklander, 2015). Similarly, when it comes to making judgments, human beings tend to look for the easiest and shortest ways possible. Such aspect of the human race is considerably heuristic, which can generally be defined as a cognitive rule of thumb that helps an individual to solve problems or make decisions in a quick and easy manner. According to Schneider, Gruman, and Coutts, it is common and automatic for people to use cognitive shortcuts when making judgments, in the processing of new information (2012).
Critical thinking can be defined in many different ways. My definition of critical thinking entails seeking the best way to resolve a problem. As the assigned article has stated, there are many conflicts in today’s graduates because they are not used to critical thinking and finding the solution on their own; instead, they are used to following the orders they are given. For example, there are certain ways to solve a math problem; some math problems give you a formula and others have specific rules to solving them. Like, “x+5=15” and these types of problems are just regurgitated out and marked on paper for a grade.
The article pointed to the several researches defining critical thinking skills. If I was taught 20 years ago what I know now. I am sure I would have been more prepared with the knowledge and skills of framing my mind to the critical thinking skills. Putting the skills and knowledge and applying them to my younger life. The article describes critical thinking as many different observations of one’s worldview.
I use critical thinking skills on a daily basis; critical thinking skills benefit me with finding the necessary information I need to problem solve. I try to analyze the situation before I react. Serious critical thinking skills are needed to self-learn. I have always been a great judge of character and constantly use critical thinking skills to support myself although there is room for self-improvement. The Ethical Lens Inventory is a tool to guide a person to strengthen their reading skills.

Moore and scepticism: “internal” and “external”’. In his judgment he seeks to grant an intuitive reaction to this abrupt proof; To the feeling that Moore's proposals have the generality necessary to refute the skeptic, but that, in spite of everything, Moore does not answer the question of the skeptic when he raises one hand and then another. Here is the example given by Moore: (1) ‘Here is a hand.’ then, making the same gesture with the left hand, he says, (2) ‘Here is another’; he then concludes, (3) ‘There are at present two human hands.’ Since the conclusion concerns the existence of objects which can be met in space, Moore claims that (3) entails (4) ‘There are physical objects.’
Bias is prejudice about someone or something which has been created based on incomplete information. More often bias has a negative effect as it affects other people, our way of thinking that could be driven into stereotypes frame. Every day we face with a huge number of biases and some of us even do not know about the existence of them. If it gets to that point when something suffers from it, people need to overcome biases. There are a lot of examples of biases in our world.

Some topics that will be discussed in this paper will be how an individual can apply the top three critical thinking skills at work, school, and throughout everyday life. Likewise, the other items that will be clarified is the meaning of each of these critical thinking skills. The top three critical thinking skills are to analyze, synthesize, and to evaluate. These skills are a central facet of everyday life and to know how to properly use them will help in the long run. Each of these skills build off each other and it would be good to know what these skills mean in their entirety.
