The Killer Angels is written in a way that is easy to understand. Each character is easy to understand and each one is described so the reader knows exactly who they are and what they are fighting for. I definitely enjoyed this book for this same reason. It is not a boring historical novel written in a third person view. The book tells the stories of the men that suffered so much throughout the battle from their own perspectives.
In the novel Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers, the main character is Richard Perry. In the beginning of this book, Richard was a generous and eager to start as a soldier in the Vietnam War. He soon becomes responsible and understanding of what it is like to be a black soldier in the war and how hard it can be to the other soldiers. Near the end, Richard becomes powerful and alerted near the end of the book. This character clearly relates to the theme of the book, which is age and race can impact somebody’s life a lot.

In the novel Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers, the main character is Richie Perry. At seventeen he graduated high school in Harlem, and he wanted to go to college, but his mother couldn’t afford to send him to college since she was an alcoholic. So he joined the army to escape his unfortunate future, but joining the army meant he had to leave his little brother Kenny, who saw him as a father figure since their father left when they were younger. Perry was sent to Vietnam and through his journey, he made lifelong bonds with many different people such as PeeWee, Monaco, and etc. Also in his journey, he suffers from mental and physical wounds.

The book can easily be read and comprehended by teenagers. Shaara uses many different methods that can keep high school students engaged in the book and also highlight many aspects of wars they might not have previously known. Shaara includes perspectives of multiple different generals, colonels, and soldiers fighting on both sides of the wars. In Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Theme, Tony Kushner depicts a series of characters who were struggled to live in 1980s. They were challenged by disease, sexual oriental and religion and got lost without appropriate self-identification. Prior Walter as the protagonist of the play, he connects the other characters and his fate drives the plots. At the star of the play, he was the most despair and pathetic character who got AIDS and abandoned by his lover, Louis. However, when he rejects the angel-imposed fate as a prophet, he achieves nirvana not only physically, but spiritually as well.
