Wayne Dyer said “Judgements prevent us from seeing the good that lies beyond appearances.” This is the case in many situations, people judge others on what they look like and do not even bother to get to know the person before assuming that they are good or bad. It can damage a person when somebody judges them on what others assume them to be. For example, Carol Plum-Ucci’s book The Body of Christopher Creed demonstrates how judgement can affect people in various ways. The three main people who face judgement throughout the book is Torey, Ali, and Bo. Firstly, Torey faced judgement throughout the book because he started to get “weird”. Bo has done some terrible things and is judged for it but he does try to do good. For instance, when he confessed to making the phone call, he was doing it so Ali and Torey would not get arrested for murdering Chris Creed. Mrs. Creed accused him for murdering her son because she thought Bo “made the call” as some sort of coverup. Secondly, Bo is judged for being a Boon. The Boons were not supposed to care for anybody and they were supposed to be tough. Bo was tough, but he cared a lot for many people. A little bit into the book Bo, Ali, and Torey were at Ali’s house when Ali’s moms boyfriend, Albert, came over. Bo got angry because they were having intercourse when the children were in the house at the same time. Bo ended up barging up the stairs to stop them from doing it. He did this because he cares about Ali and her little brother, and not only of himself. Finally, because Bo is a Boon, Mrs. Creed assumes that Bo must have killed Chris, although he did not. Mrs. Creed explained to Mr. Ames her life growing up as a Boon, and it was bad. She thinks that all Boons are bad people who would be willing to kill anybody. As this may be true for other Boons, it is not for Bo. In the book he appeared to be a big scary guy, although ended up being a huge teddy bear. The judgement against him did not affect him much, or he just did not show how much it did, but Bo might have wanted a scary reputation so people would back off of
