It’s difficult to recall the exact events that happened over 6 weeks ago without logs or the internet, and it’s even more stressful when one’s memory has their life on the line. It’s one thing to have misplaced something important, but for Adnan Syed his freedom relied on the memory of his whereabouts on a day in 1999 where his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee was murdered and he was number one on the suspect list. Adnan was arrested for first degree murder since he couldn’t remember exactly what he did on that day, because it was like any other day and he did not kill Hae despite having a direct connection to her. Adnan Syed is innocent of the murder of Hae Min Lee because he was falsely accused under the consequence that the evidence was barely …show more content…
In mainly episodes 1 and 7 of Serial, it is revealed that the vast majority of evidence was not tested despite the fact they were found at the crime scene or did not do a good enough report to have it mean anything. There are times when objects are found that are considered “outside the crime scene” and are less likely to get tested for anything. However, the items found near Hae’s body were not tested properly. The fibers under her head, the bottle near her body, or even the swabs from the body itself were not tested. That very thing was the timing of it all on the day of the murder. 21 minutes is what it took for Hae to leave school at 2:15 and had her last moments by 2:36. Though a lot of the timing is debatable, there is one thing that confused the court, which is the call logs that were had. In episode 6 of Serial, it is revealed that although Adnan said he didn’t have his phone from noon to 5, there was a log of a call that came in and was answered in the middle of the afternoon for about 2 minutes to Nisha in which Adnan has no recollection of. Nisha, in this case, only has connections with Adnan which is what puts him in such a bad spot. In episode 5, there was a call that was answered a little later in the day that pinpointed Adnan’s, or at least the phone’s, location which was near Leakin’ Park which was where Hae’s body was found. It was also said that Adnan had rung Jay up when he was about to confront Hae and after Hae was murdered so Jay could pick him up. These reasons were the most complicated to answer and the hardest to justify when it came to Adnan’s case, especially because he had no recollection of any of these things at the time and certainly not now. Still, there’s a lot of things that don’t make sense about these calls, and could refute the
