At the crime scene, Erik and Lyle left very little physical evidence behind, but their dramatically shifting emotions raised alarm bells for Mo Angel, the officer assigned to keep watch of Erik and Lyle at the crime scene. Both parties argued their sides as Oziel insisted that Lyle made continuous threats, warning that Oziel should live in fear because his father did not, inferring that Oziel should be scared for his life. Erik and Lyle claim that Oziel did most of the talking during this session, offering his opinions and speculating his ideas on what happened. One thing that both Oziel and the brothers agreed happened was that Oziel put notes detailing their sessions in three separate lockboxes with instructions on how to access the evidence if anything were to happen to him. The following days Oziel bought shotguns for himself, Smyth, and his wife. In summation, due to a psychotic breakdown, Smyth began living with the Oziel family but after creating waves within the house she was asked to leave, Oziel confessing that he would not leave his wife for Smyth. Causing Smyth to become heartbroken and furious, she went to the police disclosing that Oziel had tapes of the Menendez brother's confession in his home. Police obtained a search warrant and collected all seventeen of the audio tapes detailing how, when, and why Erik and Lyle killed their parents.
