Within 3 years of being free 66% are reincarnated, and within 5 years 77% are reincarcerated. Many ex-inmates are not trusted because in a recent study it showed that 75% of men had a sort of substance abuse. Many prisoners also have poor or no education at all, so it is very hard for them to secure a steady job. She uses a man named Haywood Spights as an example. He was convicted of stolen property. He purchased a stolen car and did not know it at the time. After his release Spight had trouble finding a stable job and ended up in jail, this time for burglary. After he was release for the second time he says he's stuck to the right side of the street for two and half years but it is extremely difficult to find a secure job. Spight helps his father, who is battling cancer, in any way he can. Either by washing his clothes, cooking him up meals, and driving him to his chemo sessions. Even though now he can not give his father rides because ex-inmates are not allowed to have license. He had a good job at a coca cola company and was even qualified to drive and use a forklift properly. He still hasn't heard a word from the places he was applied.
