Sol Lee Seth Pingel Geography 9 20 February 2024 The Changes in the 1920s and Their Changes Throughout the past century, humanity has witnessed some of the most rapid advancements in various fields. Many significant events have contributed to the changes, including the two large-scale wars, World War I and World War II. Especially the First World War, which occurred in the 1920s, has changed our lives the most. Although the high-class people made most of the important decisions, the commoners experienced most of the changes, shaping the world we know today. The production of cars and usage of oil increased remarkably, increasing greenhouse gas emissions as well. The war also brought unity between different ethnicities and people, and many new thoughts were sparked. Social justice movements, mostly for allowing LGBTQ and racial equality occurred, and some other movements brought a larger change. The women's right to vote allowed the candidates to be chosen more articulately and environmental justice movements raised awareness among people about the environment. Mostly due to the developments and advancements in technology, economic prosperity increased greatly, allowing a higher demand for products and services creating more job opportunities. Although towards the end of the decade, there was a great depression, it brought positive effects that stabilized the economy and laws (Chapter 2: The 1920s and the Start of the Depression 1921-1933, 2003). This, in the end, led to an economic cycle that created more and more prosperity and a more relaxing lifestyle for commoners. With the relaxation of living, people were able to develop culture instead of being chased by survival. The 1920s is also referred to as the “roaring twenties.” The American government banned drinking pubs to prevent crime or the negatives, but people continued to open illegal shops and because they were drawn to things that were not allowed to do, it soon became a craze. After people began to drink even more liquor, they soon realized that entertainment was required. This developed the culture of jazz music and blues along with dancing. With the more leisurely lifestyle, people wanted to hear their news, stories, or music rather than read it, along with the development of films, movies also became a craze(Heel, 2024). Soon after the war ended, people turned their attention to fashion, which they couldn’t focus on during the war. Women's fashion mostly changed from traditional
