Jackson Katz’s eye-opening diction elaborates on the idea of men’s violence by using phrases like “silence is a form of consent” and “need adult men in power to prioritize these issues”. The main point in this astonishing TED talk is that there should be a bigger emphasis on these domestic violence issues. Whether it’s men in power or just normal bystanders, there isn’t enough being done to stop the violence from happening. Men need to start standing with women and not against them. The silence from these people in power and in the bystanders is basically saying that they are agreeing with the violence being inflicted, since they aren’t doing anything to stop it.
PA 604: Domestic Violence Data Exploration Project My research topic for this data exploration project was influenced by reading the Bureau of Justice Statistics 2014 Annual Criminal Victimization Report. From that publication, an intriguing statistic caught my attention and research interest. “The rate of domestic violence, which includes crime committed by intimate partners and family members, remained stable from 2013 to 2014 (4.2 per 1,000). No measurable change was detected from 2013 to 2014 in the rate of intimate partner violence (2.4 per 1,000), which includes victimizations committed by current or former spouses, boyfriends, or girlfriends” (BJS Criminal Victimization, August 2015). I decided to investigate how this statistic was concluded by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS).
Although Cherie’s volatile relationship has not erupted into physical violence, Tyrone’s threatening behavior could easily escalate from controlling and intimidating behavior to outright domestic violence, which adds another crisis component to this case. As previously mentioned, Cherie revealed that Tyrone belittles and controls her. She also said Tyrone acts excessively jealous, limits her telephone usage and access to money and credit cards. These characteristics are often mentioned when women in domestic violence shelters describe their mate (James & Gilliland, 2013, p.302).

PROBLEM ANALYSIS According to the findings in the Royal Commission’s report into Family Violence (2016), AFV is a significant issue within the community and is on the rise. This is backed up by the 2015-2016 Victorian Police annual report which states that since 2006, there has been a consistent annual increase of young people under the age of eighteen perpetrating family violence. The Department of Human Services (2014), found that in 2011-2012, there was over 2000 family violence incidents that were allegedly committed by individuals under the age of eighteen, as well as 57% of those individuals was 15 years old or less (Victoria Police, 2012; & Department of Human Services, 2014).
The wide spectrum for the desire to own resources in many countries has produced a raging armed conflict. For instance, developing countries like, Africa are the most vulnerable to face constant wars due to the lack of resources. Consequently, a new source is being used to battle the rivalries for the reoccurring conflict. Ismael Beah’s book, A Long Way Gone, reveals in detail that child soldiers are the newest source used in the armed conflict. His book, also demonstrates his experience as a child soldier, fighting for the Sierra Leone Armed Services at the age of twelve.

The effects of a child witnessing domestic violence is an issue that up until recently went unnoticed. As researchers have observed the lifelong impact that it has on children is almost as bad as the crime itself. According to Theresa Vargas, “These children [who witness domestic violence] are much more likely to suffer as adults from addiction and other health problems and become victims or perpetrators of violence” (Vargas 3 of 7). In 2008 a young boy from Southern Maryland named Michael, watched his mother, Erin Curtis be brutally stabbed twenty-seven times by his stepfather. Beth was also able to recover from some of the effects of the child abuse she experienced once she was separated from her adoptive family and taken to a special home. A child that experiences domestic violence or is exposed to domestic violence can develop a fear of their environment, for they think that everyone will try to hurt them. They also do not trust anyone with their problems or issues, hence they will keep everything inside and this will affect their state of mind. An abused spouse may experience chronic psydiasmatic pain or pain due to diffuse trauma without visible evidence. This form of pain will have a very bad effect on the body.
