Have you ever wanted to be a different person in the same life? In Avatar Jake Sully and the other humans try to do that with the Na’vi people. James Cameron directed a masterpiece that came out in 2009 called Avatar. The cinematography in Avatar is shown all throughout the movie, the main visual aspect that I saw in the film is the different color palettes. The contrast between the Na’vi people and the humans are shown throughout the colors that they live with. The plot summary starts off with Jake arriving at Pandora in the year 2154 where the humans have already started setting up their camps to take down the Na’vi people. Dr. Grace Augustine is the leader of the department trying to get to know the Na’vi people from the inside. She does not want the other people to destroy what they have built in the Na’vi society. She never wanted Jake to be there, because he did not know anything about the Na’vi people. Jake and Grace then get into their avatars and start to train before they make their first mission to the Na'vis society. This is where Jake gets lost and meets Neytiri. Neytiri is a part of the Na’vi people, she then saves Jake’s avatar from a pack of dogs by shooting them with her bow and arrows. Neytiri teaches Jake the way of the people so that he would fit in, because she saw something in him. Jake gets brought to the higher up Na’vi people and there he gets accepted. Humans then want to take the unobtainium from under the Na’vi peoples tree. This is where the humans decide to destroy all of the land and kill most of the people. In this fight for land Grace ends up getting killed and leaves Jake to rally the Na’vi people to defend the land. The Na’vi people are blue and everything where they live is very bright and vibrant. The humans live in a very industrial looking place where everything is very bland and hostile. This shows the contrast in how the humans live versus how the Na’vi people live. This affects how the audience might choose who to root for and may help tug on some heart strings. All of these things impact the characters to truly let loose and embrace the character they are playing. It makes the audience feel more involved in the film and helps save some of our planet in real life. The way the directors textured each scene made it come to life for the audience. The Na’vi are kind to their land so it gives back to them with life and the colorful landscape they live on. The humans just care about the money so the land shows that back to them. It all brings the contrast of the two lifestyles both the Na’vi people and the humans live. It brings into perspective how many people from the audience might view the planet. It shows how much people truly care about money instead of building a society around helping others and the planet. The palette that the artists used on the film made everything make sense even though it looks unreal at times. When the humans destroyed the Na’vi peoples land the fire flamed up and represented hatred and jealousy. This shows what humans might view as power is
