These women are able to fight back to men who think that they are superior to them. They have such a strong will to live by there morals, even if they are put in a situation of life or death. They always escape a dangerous situation no matter what. Both of these strong women had sadly been taken advantage of by selfish men. Amanita was raped by her owner Mr.Applebee when she lived on the plantation. Celie was raped by her father and her husband. Both women were also violently beaten. Celie was hit in the head by a rock when she first arrived at misters house by his son named Harpo. Amanita was taken from her home in africa, treated like a slave, she was starved, burned and whipped. The way that these stories are different are that they happened in different time periods. The book of negroes happened in the late seventeen hundreds when slavery was allowed. The Color Purple took place in the early nineteen hundreds. Even though these stories happened at very different times they still affected the women severely. The sad part about these stories is that they are still happening in todays society.
