During harry S. Truman's presidency he was faced with one of the most world altering decisions in the war against japan. The use of atomic weapons would set an example of the united states of america’s military strength, power and knowledge of a very destructive technology. It was necessary for president Truman to drop the atomic bomb on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki for these reasons. American soilders were tired from the four years of fighting and a surrender from Japan was not in sight.. In (Doc L) it says the bomb saved more lives than killed people in the end, President Truman needed to retaliate for their attack on Pearl Harbor and the bomb would just end the war more quicker.
Since the bomb was used it showed the world the mass destruction that can be caused so it could help prevent larger destruction. Document three was written by the secretary of war and states, “The destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki put an end to the Japanese war” which stopped the rest of the violence between the armies (Doc 3). Death is a part of all wars but the choice of the bomb also stopped further casualties because it stopped fire raids, strangling, blockades, and the overall clash between the two sides. These two quotes demonstrate why the atomic bomb should have been dropped on purpose because the purpose of these quotes was to put an end to the war. The next agreement is that some citizens believed that the bomb should not have been dropped and other measures should have been taken to end the war.
The United States’ order to drop the pair of nuclear bombs was debated until logical conclusions were presented. The decision to finally deploy the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a diplomatic measure calculated to intimidate the Soviet Union in the post-Second-World-War era. America needed to show that they ruled the world stage, and they needed to make Russia more manageable. In addition, the atomic bomb was not required to win the war, displaying that the United States exploited the war as an excuse to show their force and power to other countries on the world stage.
The atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II serve as examples of the advancement of warfare technology the United States had made. However, the atomic bomb drop was unnecessary and simply used as a display of power by the Truman administration. Although the Japanese were certainly defeated and close to surrender Truman’s administration decided to drop the bombs in order to ensure that the United States was the sole victor of the war without relying on their Soviet allies. Truman was intolerant of communism and afraid that allowing Joseph Stalin have any influence during the war would spread communism. Therefore, Truman took the decision to drop the atomic bombs which then served as what historians call it “atomic
If the U.S. did not use the atomic bomb, the war could have killed more American soldiers because Japanese soldiers fought to the death. “The U.S. had sustained more than 75,000 casualties.” (Historical Background). The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was just retaliation for Japan's bombing of Pearl Harbor. The bombing was not really about saving lives.
On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city, Hiroshima. This, in turn, killed over 90,000 people both before and after the collision and turned 4 square miles of the city into rubble. Now, the question that comes to mind; Was dropping the bomb on Hiroshima the correct thing to do? The answer I have come up with is that it was, in fact, a good decision. It helped the war in the Pacific end quicker and decrease the number of casualties.
The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the first and only time an atomic bomb was used. The bomb killed thousands of innocent Japanese civilians, and left few survivors. The Allies thought of using the bomb because it would instantly end the war, and it did, but at the cost of many innocent lives. The bomb was also used as a factor to demonstrate the power of the US, and was supposed to help push other countries out of several countries. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was unnecessary because it gave little benefit to the Allies and led to thousands of innocent lives lost.
In an attempt to get Japan to surrender to the Allies, in August 1945, the United States dropped two atomic bombs on the nation. The first bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and the second on Nagasaki. Although these bombs did contribute to Japan’s surrender and the end of the war, the use of this atomic weapon was an irrational and horrible decision. The United States should have abstained from using the two atomic bombs on Japan for the sake of civilian lives and possible alternatives to their decision. These bombs not only had detrimental effects on Japan, they also led to an arms race amongst several nations.
After Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in the Hawaiian Islands, President Truman dropped two atomic bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. Since then, there has been arguments whether the bombs should have been dropped or not. President Truman’s choice to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was really the only option he had back then. Today, the bombs that President Truman dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki is thought as a horrible event, but Truman dropped the bombs to save American and Japanese lives, and in the end, shortened the war. Before President Truman decidecd to drop the two atomic bombs, the war with the Japanese had no end insight.
It was a military necessity to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. For starters, it was a war necessity to drop the atomic bomb was because it ended the war faster. It got them to surrender instead of continuing to fight. The atomic bomb was called, “ The Winning Weapon” because it forces the other country to surrender (OI). “We have used it to shorten the agony of the war, in order to save the lives of thousands and thousands of young Americans” (Doc I).
August 15 - The news has come in that Japan has officially signed an act of unconditional surrender, bringing the six-year war to an end and bringing the impending Armageddon to a halt. While many thought that Japan would hold out until the bitter end, but with the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki radically transformed the playing field. The Japanese could not withstand their stance of defiance, when, on August 6th, the first atomic bomb fell upon Hiroshima. Three days later, another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki.
My strongest argument AGAINST using the atomic bomb is that it will kill thousands of innocent people. The bomb that was dropped over Hiroshima instantly killed about 80,000 civilians. Those who survived were seriously injured with burns, and more people would also die from the radiation. This was talked about on page 188, “...instantly killed almost 80,000 civilians. The nuclear blast left many more people maimed or hideously burned, while others fell victim to a new, more gradual killer – radiation poisoning.”
We decided to use the bomb because Iwo Jima and Okinawa showed that Japan would fight on even in the face of defeat. We used the bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We used the bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki because we didn’t have a choice. We were going to drop the bombs somewhere else but because of weather we had to drop the bombs where we could so we dropped
World war II began on September 1st 1939 and to date is the largest war in human history. This great war was fought between two sides, the allied powers and the axis powers. The bombing of Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Japan were not justifiable and here's why. The atomic bombing of Japan at the end of World War II by the United States is one of the most debated and controversial topics in all of history. Since the bombing in 1945, historians have debated whether or not the United States was justified in using the two atomic bombs to end the war.
The dropping of the atomic bombs on World War II on the city of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a very important part of World War II. The atomic bomb ended the war between America and Japan. This was just one of the important events during the battle in World War II. The Battle at Pearl Harbor, where the Japanese attacked U.S. soil was also why the americans bombed Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Some believe that the United States was correct in dropping these bombs on Japan because of the attack on Pearl Harbor while others believe that it was very wrong to dropped the bomb.
