The topic of chasing after goals set by upper management and worrying about how your employee’s are treated is a very fine line that can go one of two ways. There seem to be extremes in the workplace where people either hate working for the company that they work at, but their company is doing well, or they enjoy their work at their company, but they aren’t doing that well. It’s the companies that find out how to balance those which seem to succeed the most. It’s companies like Google or Facebook that really know how to treat employee’s and make them want to stay and work for their company while they have great success chasing after goals. There needs to be a balance of the two. If you are too focused on employee’s, you may lack in goal completion completely. According to Mobbs (2016) the definition of a task oriented leader is as followed; “A task-oriented leader sees a goal, creates a step-by-step plan to reach that goal, creates a work schedule and then expects workers to follow that schedule and finish the task by a specific deadline.” This is something that should be done for every leader if they want to complete their goals in a timely and efficient manner. Even though we talked about the importance of worrying about the people of your company the goals are what drives your company to be able to pay your employee’s. They should definitely be looked at with utmost importance. The combination of employee care and goal-driven work is what will make the biggest difference in the ability to lead an organization to success or to failure.
Employee’s are the driving force that employers need to reach their goals and if they aren’t paid attention to it will be a disaster for the company. Having an equal and ethical approach to people and tasks is what companies need to compete in the competitive marketplace and be sustainable in the long run.
