In this day and age, video games are one of the most trending topics available, especially among millennials. The high entertainment value it can offer to them, and due to the fact that there is a certain appeal video games inherently have which allures different types of people are just some of the reasons why video games easily attract and entice people to play. As a matter of fact, the first ever recorded video game was Tennis for Two by physicist William Higinbotham, who invented the game so that people at an open house to seize the interest of the visitors, since he found the other exhibits quite dull and boring. Genres for video games are also very diverse, there are games that are almost complete simulations of real life while there are video games that explore the fictional world, such as fantasy, space and more. Oftentimes, video games that are released as the years go by become more conflict-based, violent and gory rather than peaceful, and if there are non-violent video games then they are mostly drowned out by the popularity of the violent video games, for reasons that shall be discussed throughout this paper. Another Example would be shooting and killing people seen in games such as Call of Duty, a war simulator. Extreme gore and graphic scenes that depict scenes that are disgusting and extreme to an extent would also be under the umbrella of violent video games, seen in Mortal Kombat during the fatality scenes. These are considered an issue in our day and age due to the fact that many people see it in a bad light, particularly parents, since the most common sight would be the youth playing video games. This is due to the fact that violent video games are not wholesome and may be linked to bad behavior as well as aggressive behavior within the youth. People see that the influence of video games towards one’s personality is very high, oftentimes forgetting the other factors that may be involved in developing one’s personality, and blaming the video games if an individual is acting aggressively. In addition to that, video game violence became an even bigger concern since it worsened upon the several shooting events that happened, specifically the shooting incidents.
