In the book The Crucible by Arthur Miller, one of the main characters, John Proctor had an affair with Abigail Williams. By doing so, this opens up a big conflict between his wife Elizabeth, Abigail and the Salem court. In court Abigail accused Elizabeth of attempted murder by witchcraft. Their servant Mary Warren, brought home a doll she was making in court with a needle stuck in the stomach. When Reverend Hale visits the Proctors, the town marshals arrive with a warrant for Elizabeth’s arrest. They ask Elizabeth if she owns any poppets and then proceeds to find Mary Warren’s poppet sitting on the mantel.
