As a 19-year-old college student, being asked what you want to do with your future can be terrifying. It feels as if everyone is pressuring you to sign your life away to a career. Thankfully, through extensive research, time, and self-reflection, I feel that I have found a career path that fits my personality and goals. Becoming a Speech Pathologist seems to have all of the characteristics of a job that interest me. Constant human interaction, flexibility in job location, a decent salary, and the potential to work with children are what excite me about this career. When I imagine my future, I can picture a few aspects that I am most excited about. First, I want a family and I want to be a mom. Besides that, I want to have the option to work if I need to. Self- reliance is extremely important to me, which is why I want to earn a master's degree. I also want to be working as a speech pathologist in an elementary school. …show more content…

My mother instilled in me how important it is to seek an education and the experiences that come from doing so. She also served a religious mission in Venezuela for 18 months, where she learned Spanish. I have always been amazed by her ability to communicate with others from different backgrounds and cultures. This is why I am also minoring in Spanish. I love that I can learn about how language develops and how I can better communicate with others who do not speak English as a first language. I believe I have a natural talent for meeting new people and communicating. These characteristics are what drew me to Speech Pathology.
