The docudrama, Darwin’s Dangerous Idea, set its’ premise around the evolutionary theory, which during the time of the 1830’s – 1880’s, was a very dangerous idea to discuss because religion played an important role in society. The introduction begins with Darwin coming home from his five-year voyage on the Beagle to show his brother Erasmus his findings about the voyage. Shortly after arriving home from his voyage, Darwin must convene with the academic and scientific community about his findings. A fellow scientist gets together with Darwin after hearing about his discoveries to inquire about where his specimen where located at the Galapagos Islands, only to find out that Darwin did not, at the time, see a need to associate location with the specimen. Later that evening, Darwin realizes that the location of each specimen could play a critical role in his theory of evolution. Chris Schneider and his team from the Boston University conducted research that directly correlated to Darwin’s theory. They visited a rainforest in Ecuador, the same one that took Darwin by surprise at how many species there were in the rainforest. There is competition between all species when it comes to resources, and the ability of whether or not they will survive depends on a variety of factors, some include coloration, speed, or ability in vision. The information from his insights led to Darwin’s term of natural selection. Darwin never saw natural selection occurring during his lifetime but doctors in today’s world can view natural selection in the medical labs by looking at virus’ and bacteria growing and living in human
