I believe, and research shows, that student achievement improves when parents are involved in school. Schools must keep parents and the community informed and involved to create a partnership that benefits all stakeholders. Creating a communication plan is a great way to hold everyone accountable for their role in the communication process. Everyone involved must know their role and take responsibility for the part they hold in the communication plan. Writing a plan on paper is not enough. The plan must be followed and everyone must be willing to do their part. The superintendent has the most important role. He/ She must lead by example and show all employees what good communication looks like. This information will be helpful as I create my communication plan.
A teacher’s main goal should be to create a healthy environment for their students, where they can learn and prepare for the real world. Using the media is a great way to promote the school. Many times the media only reports the negative stories about a school, because they don’t know about the positive things going on. It is important for the principal to be proactive in sharing positive things about the school and making sure the parents and the community are informed of the good things going on in the school. I believe that sometimes the media can be tricky and report a story differently than the way it was intended. Their job is to write stories that sell, so they sometimes change things to make the story more interesting. School leaders must be aware of this and be on their guard when talking to the media. I agree with the article that the best public relations come from the staff and the students. They are the ones in the school every day. They communicate with others about what is going on in the school every day, and can have a far greater effect on opinions about the school than anybody
