The Eye of Minds is a futuristic novel written by James Dashner that focuses on the concept of a virtual world called the VirtNet. The two types of characters in this novel are humans, and Tangents, which are programs made by humans so they’re basically artificial intelligence. Humans (also known as gamers) have access to the VirtNet from their Coffins which is a device. Furthermore, Michael is a teenage protagonist who assists Agent Weber with locating Kaine (who has a reputation for being dangerous and ferocious), and the Mortality Doctrine. After reading the novel The Eyes of Minds, I have confidence that it can fascinate other students enough for them to read it. Other students should take the time to read this novel considering the plot twists and turns, the futuristic concept of a virtual world, and how Michael is an adventurous character which allows the storyline to intensify. Agent Weber asks for Michael to find out about Kaine and something called the Mortality Doctrine and Michael must make a decision. Michael already has some information on Kaine revolving around how he traps humans in the VirtNet and causes them to kill themselves, so he knows this is dangerous. Agent Weber talks to Michael about how “‘We need to find both the man and the Mortality Doctrine. Will you help us?’ …Michael assertively says ‘Yes’” (Dashner 31). Michael firmly says yes to help find Kaine and the Mortality Doctrine. There is no hesitation when he immediately says yes, which shows his impulsion. If Michael did not say yes to Agent Weber, Michael would be safe at home and enjoy his life as it is by going into the VirtNet and hanging with his friends, Bryson and Sarah. Since he does say yes, he discovers new information and new places. Michael is always moving forward without thinking, which keeps the story moving
