It was ninety degrees. The sun burns and brightens everywhere on the ground. I did not have any place to hide, even though I really urged to do so. I was so nervous. I did not know any steps of the marching show. I just simply followed other ones’ steps. I was frightened and worried if I made any mistakes, then the band show would be ruined. At a moment, I felt like time flied back till I was only eight again. I have been studying the flute since I was in the second grade. At first, it was just because the school band was calling for learners, and I wanted to have a try. In the first two years, mastering the fundamental skills was quite difficult. At American Heritage School, I also joined the school band. In the past two years, I have been awarded the Superior Honor in flute playing from the local county government. What was more significant was I came to realize the awards and prizes were not the most critical parts flute had given to me. The flute learning experience granted me an inner power, reminding me of the fact that success is a result of hard work instead of a natural gift. Moreover, it also helped me make friends, especially when I was a new student in this foreign country. In the year of 2013, I was one of the only three international students among eighty-seven members in American Heritage School band. After we went through plenty of rehearsals, and my flute playing turned to be a very important component of various performance and concerts, I got much closer to all my peers and won appreciation from them.
