The Gallic war from 58 B.C. to 51 B.C. was a major point in the rise of Julius Caesar as a dictator for life. Julius Caesar feared the migration of the Gallic tribe Helvetii through Gaul was an attempt to set up a new kingdom and gain control of Gaul. The victory of the Gallic war resulted in the expansion of the Roman Republic and extended Rome's geographic boundaries to the Atlantic Ocean.
