The Gilded Ones, by Namina Forna, is a fictional book about a girl named Deka, she was born with darker skin and impure blood, but in her village impure blood was not allowed, so she was beheaded by her father and became a demon. There can be some parallels drawn between the real world and The Gilded Ones. In the book, the characters face real world challenges and learn how to overcome them throughout the book. A parallel in the book is page 149, of the book it states “Our whole lives we’ve been taught to make ourselves smaller, weaker than men”.
