The Memory
Obviously both societies vary on their differences but that doesn't mean they don't have similarities. In the giver, the Family Unit was kinda a big thing like it is in our Society. In the Novel, the giver, it states, “Two children-one male, one female to each family unit”(Lowry 8). Obviously there are differences but if we are talking about family units, both have many similarities.
Every Family unit/Society always has their own tradition including the giver. In the text, it emphasizes how “The children all receive their bikes at nine…..But almost always, the older brother and sisters had taught the younger ones”(Lowry 17). This information helps justify how they would always get their bikes at nine but since the older ones taught them before, They would have some knowledge. In the novel, the Giver, by Louis Lowry. A dystopia is a place/society with suffering, injustice , unhappiness and more. A utopia is a happy place with kindness and more/everything is perfect. While some differences between The Giver society and my society are noticeable the differences are striking. First there are many similarities in the Giver and Modern Society. Both Jonas society and modern society had some types of jobs but it was obviously not %100 the same. In the text it is how, “The initial speech at the ceremony of twelve was made by the chief elder…..time of childhood and the period of preparation, the coming responsibilities of adult life, the profound importance of assignment, the seriousness of training to come ''(Lowry 65).
