The Graveyard is a novel made by Neil Gaiman published in 2008. This novel is about a young boy named Nobody Owens or as he is called in the novel Bod. Bod’s family was murdered at a young age by a man named Jack and he was adopted by ghosts. Bod learns many useful skills from a variety of people at the graveyard. An example of this is Bod’s guardian Silas. Silas is a vampire, and he is neither dead nor alive in the novel Silas looks after Bod and protects him from danger. An example of this is in chapter 6 when the police are about to take Bod and Silas teleports him away. Silas also teaches Bod how to read and write. (Gaiman, 2008, Pg. 32) ("Can you read yet? Do you know your alphabet?") Here Silas is asking Bod how he is going with his literacy skills this shows that Silas cares about how Bod is going and that he is trying to be the best teacher he can be. …show more content…

Liza is a witch whom Bod befriends. Liza was a witch who was drowned by the villager in the village she lived in as they suspected that she was a witch. The villager believed that if she survived then she was a witch but she still ended up drowning before she drowned she cursed the villagers soon after the villagers died from her curse. Although Liza felt smug about this she still wanted a headstone. Bod knows this and so he tries to get her one later Liza found out about this. Pg. 120 ("I wanted to get you a headstone") In this part of the novel Bod is trapped in a store and Liza asks how he got there so Bod tells her of his plan.
