2 April, 2015 Power outweighs the bad First off power is the key to success and the troubles people may face later on in the future. This can be seen not only in the everyday world, but also in the literary world. One piece of literature this could be seen is The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald. Power could be found with the characters Tom, Nick, Daisy, and Gatsby. Another piece of literature that power could be found in is Boy21 by Matthew Quick. Within this text power is divided by Finely and Boy21.

One critic’s view is, “The genius associated with the creator of wealth was a product of the slums rather than of comfortable colonial mansions” ( Lena 1). This quote means that Once Tom was born into wealth he made everyone else around feel less than a person. Within the book Nick states," just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had" ( Fitzgerald 1 ). Nick show in the quote that everyone is worshiped for some type of wealth; in other words everyone cannot be as wealthy as others. One critic’s view is, “ There lived in Verona under the above-mentioned Prince, two noble families endowed equally with wealth, valiant kinsmen and faithful followers which Heaven, nature and fortune had bestowed upon them “ ( Da Porto 1 ). In this quote it is saying that the two noble families are under a prince in order to consider themselves wealth. Romeo and Juliet text states, “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name,Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I’ll no longer be a Capulet.Although Romeo and Juliet look within charters with certain types of wealth it also uses power for their success “ ( Shakespeare 123). Juliet gives evidence of the ways she has to see Romeo without others knowing because of their differences.
