Over time, political and economic structures in Africa have changed continuously. Having been colonized repeatedly in the 1800s, Africa’s structures have changed due to colonization and were faced with challenges as many of the natural resources, which had provided income and structural support, were taken away. Africa’s political and economic structure, prior to the Europeans invasion, consisted of small states that had a structure of government set up by chiefs for the society. The more powerful states contained more wealth through the creation of trade routes to the European nations. While the Sultans or kings were the ones who had an elevated status.
The implications of stopping the use of child labour in the cocoa industry in Cote d'Ivoire spread far and wide, affecting the government, cocoa farmers, chocolate companies and children themselves. The UN's Food & Agriculture Organisation states that more than a third of the world’s cocoa is supplied by Cote d'Ivoire. Cocoa is the country's largest export, earning around 2.5 billion dollars in 2010. According to a report by Tulane University that investigated the 2013, 2014 harvest season, there were around 1,203,473 child laborers aged 5 to 17 in the cocoa industry, of which 95.9% were engaged in hazardous work. Stopping child labour in Côte d'Ivoire will improve children's education & health levels.
The Ancient Mali civilization started as a small province in the kingdom of Ghana, in western Africa, south of the Saharan desert. The Mali kingdom was very well located because the Niger river flowed through their empire which allowed them to have an abundance of fish that made up a big part of their diet. Over time, ancient Mali grew and spread over nearly 2,000 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean to the city of Gao.
The sight of seeing an elephant in the wild, basking in the heat of the day enjoying the freedom of roaming in a watering hole in the Tembe Elephant Park made me curious enough to research and add an African safari to Inky’s bucket list. Tembe Elephant Park is the home for 250 of the world’s biggest elephants claims Dr John Marais, writer of two books, “Great Tuskers of Africa”, “In search of Africa’s great Tuskers”. Located between Zululand and Mozambique and set within 190 square miles of sand, bush and breathtaking scenery the Tembe Park is co-owned and managed by the Tembe people whose ancestors have resided for over five generations. In addition to the primary elephant focus, the park is also home to other African wildlife including

The conclusion of the African slave trade did not mark the loss of Europe’s interest in Africa. It marked the beginning of a new era; European imperialism in Africa. But what urged Europe to control all of Africa? Political competition, technology, economics, and cultural attitudes all propelled Europe 's colonization of Africa.
Imperialism is a process that occurs when a more powerful country takes over a less powerful country and this could be through the use of force or threats (Young & Alcock, 1974). Imperialism can either be Political, Military, Cultural, Communication and Economic or it can be a combination of these kinds of Imperialism’s. Imperialism led to opportunities for profit accumulation, trading and investment opportunities (Freund, 1984). The need for raw materials in Europe for manufacturing gave small African traders and small African farmers the opportunity to be involved in international trade. The change from slave trade to a more legal trade led to a crisis and Europeans assumed that the only solution to this crisis was to make all non-European
Erwin H. Bulte claims in “Open access harvesting of wildlife: the poaching pit and conservation of endangered species” that the species caught at the low level countries will benefit them economically in the long run due to the rising price of these animals (Bulte 2003). Mindy Weisberger emphasises what Bulte, and Messer were suggesting in “Hunting Big Game: Why People Kill animals for Fun” that poaching has created a positive economic impact. Michael Paterniti furthers the idea in “Should We Kill Animals to Save Them?” that the poaching has been a strategy in Africa to alleviate poverty in the country. The next thing that they all have agreed on that the number of endangered species have gone down year in and year out.
Nebila Ahmed October 21, 2016 Outline Thesis statement: Although the production of palm oil is economically beneficial for Indonesia, palm oil production has led to the deforestation of rainforests and habitat loss for rare and endangered species such as the Sumatran tigers, Komodo dragons, Sumatran rhinoceros, Javan elephants, Bornean Orangutans, and Sumatran Orangutans. Alternative sources of income are sustainable ecotourism and sustainable palm oil as it is another source of income that is beneficial to the government and local communities. Ecotourism and sustainable palm oil are also ways of bringing awareness and educating the public about the negative impacts of palm oil harvesting which may lead to the protection of forests,
Women in North Africa faced many pre-existing challenges because of their gender but their hardships were amplified as a result of French imperialism. France took over three North African countries, Algeria, Tunisia, and Morocco. The struggle began in 1830 with France’s invasion of Algeria (which eventually also led to the conquest of Tunisia ad Morocco) and lasted over fifty years until their liberation in 1956 and 1962. North African men often saw women in these countries as inferior, thus the French took advantage of their perspective to break down women’s roles and add to their harsh treatment. French colonization further defined Women’s subservient position in society by prohibiting them to have a real education and this prevented women
