For my book report, I read The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolken. This is a story of epic proportions, despite it being written as a “children’s book”. The story takes place in the fantasy land of Middle Earth. It follows a young hobbit, little people with ridiculously giant feet that live in hillsides, named Bilbo Baggins. He just is minding his own business with his books and his fancy tea cups when a wizard named Gandalf and some Dwarfs convince him to go on a journey to help the Dwarfs reclaim their kingdom and their riches from a dragon, Smaug, at the Lonely Mountain. You could probably go sledding, maybe go skiing down the mountain that that gold formed. Anyway, they wake Smaug and have this battle with him. There happens to be a gold smeltery in the castle, so they work on making the gold melt so they can get it into the cast of their late Dwarf king. They lure the dragon in front of the cast before the gold has time to set and pour liquid gold all over Smaug. He makes it out the front door of the castle, and, having been convinced Water-town was behind them getting in the castle, goes to destroy Water-town. Smaug has scales that are like iron, so no ordinary arrow can penetrate him. I feel this to be a little cliche, but only a certain arrow made of dark steel can kill him. And it just so happens that the last arrow is in Water-town, so they end up killing Smaug. There is an abbandoned fortress up the lake from where they are at, so they take shelter there. Towards the end of the battle, Thorin and his nephews went up to try and stop the leader of the Wargs so the army wouldn’t have a commander, but the Wargs were smart enough to know that might come. They ran off and hid so they could ambush them. Both nephews are killed, and now Thorin is left to battle the Warg leader. Thorin wins, but he is mortally wounded and dies after saying his final words to Bilbo, who went up to try to warn them about the plan the Wargs had. Winning army rejoices, Bilbo goes home a legend, and the events of The Lord of the Rings take place, the
