The Book and Movie, The Hunger Games, is an allusion to The story of Theseus and the Minotaur from Greek Mythology. The story goes that Minos, the king of Crete, once sent his only son on a visit to Athens, and he was sent by the Athenian king to fight a bull. When the boy died from the fight, the angry Minos captured Athens and declared that he would destroy it unless they completed his bizarre demand: once every nine years, the Athenians had to send a tribute of seven maidens and seven youths, who would then be forced to confront the Minotaur, who would devour them. This directly parallels the story of The Hunger Games. This rewritten version of an old Greek legend shows a theme of how history can repeat itself.
The greatest heroes in human history, whether real or fictional, are often portrayed as lone-wolves, people who neither require nor want help from others. Because of their greatness, they have no need for help from others. But that is entirely untrue. Every president has a vice president, every superhero has a sidekick. And if even those people need help, then of course a normal man such as Nick Flynn does to.
The book “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins has caused quite a stir as people have challenged this book saying that it’s disrespectful to religion, desensitizes children, and so much more. Children reading these books are now not being affected as much by very gruesome violence and have nightmares because of the descriptiveness of these books, “a parent in New Hampshire challenged the Goffstown school board over Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games claiming it gave her 11-year-old nightmares and could numb children to violence”, ("Banned Books Week -The Hunger Games") claims like these has been undoubtedly the reason for the ban on this series in multiple countries and states. I personally believe this book should not be banned because though
20 Oct. 2014. http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/people-skills/201203/should-children-see-hunger-games-0 In her article, “Should Children see Hunger Games” Marcia Eckerd, who has a PhD in psychology, claimed that the violence in the “Hunger Games” could impact our children, so she obviously wanted to provide parents with information about violence in movies. She proved by first demonstrating that the “Hunger Games” has a PG-13 rating which means that the move has some material may not be suitable for children , then explaining why we should prevent

A fourth grader might be able to read The Hunger Games, but would not be able to emotionally comprehend the poverty and violence experienced in the novel. This is because The Hunger Games is meant for a seventh grade reading level or higher. The downside to censorship is that it technically violates the United States First Amendment covering freedom of speech. Books should be able to be read without fear of being judged by other people who do not have the same beliefs. Some of the most common books banned are books that tackle uncomfortable coming of age topics (Are You There God?
This is the raw, intense story of The Hunger Games and my conclusion on it. This story is written by Susanne Collins, this story is about 12 districts who are all ruled by the Capitol, the capitol has many different ways of punishing these districts. One of the many ways the capitol punishes these districts is by having them select two tributes from each district male and female to fight to the death until there is one winner in an event named The Hunger Games. My thesis statement is that people are being desensitized to violence some examples include: How the capitol’s remorse level is extremely low for the pain and suffering they have inflicted on the people within these 12 districts another example is how the capitol is always in full control
The Hunger Games: A Modern Day Odyssey? The Hunger Games is about a civilization that randomly selects two members from the different districts. Those two members are then forced to fight in an “arena” in which there is only one victor. In a way the Hunger Games is very similar to the Odyssey. The Odyssey begins years after the Trojan War has ended and Odysseus has not returned home.
Watching people suffer is an astonishing action that people love to see. This happens all throughout the world, with movies, shows, and even in schools. In the film, The Hunger Games, the world is similar in a creepy way. It shows people suffering, while others sit back and enjoy watching people suffer. The Hunger Games is trying to warn people around the world about segregation reoccurring, entertainment of suffering, and the effects of poverty on young people.
However it may be a little frightening as well because no one is safe in the hunger games. Women, Men, Young teens, even adults are not immune to harm in the hunger games. Sure. Katniss is a bad@$$ and she really can take care of herself but the story in general is tragic. Seeing as women usually want to help each other as much as possible, but in the hunger games, her and 11 girls are forced to battle each other, while there are rich females in the capitol who are betting on them and enjoying watching their skirmishing to the death.
In the Hunger Games series, a dystopian future is set up. The government of Panem, The Capitol, holds the wealth of Panem giving it the power to control all districts. In order to enforce this theory, they created the Hunger Games. They suppressed the rights of the citizen’s of Panem and selected their children in order to fight each other do death for survival. These games were created to scare the people and show them who was in charge.
The twelve districts in theory should view the Hunger Games as the necessary tool that keeps Panem from uprising and self-destruction, however, the reception of the Games in the really poor districts clearly shows that the Capitol cannot reform them to think so. Statistically, the poor districts are always the most likely to lose one year’s competition because they lack resources to train tributes and their children are starving. Therefore, the response to the Hunger Games in the poor districts who are on the brink of starvation is the most dramatic. Citizens of districts such as 11 and 12 can only view the Games as injustice because once a child is chosen at the Reaping he or she is evidently doomed to die. There are rare exceptions as the
The Hungar games, maybe one of the most well known books in the world, In schools around the world children are reading it, but the question is should they be? Furthermore, some people believe that the hunger games are too violent to be taught in schools. In my opinion the Hungar games is a book that should be read in schools. To begin, all the violence is fiction, meaning there is no violence that has affected anyone. Evidence from the text is,“In a book originally marketed as young adult fiction, it presents questions of government control, deceit, violence and child killing for the reading audience to consider.”
Should the kids watch or read Hunger Games? I believe that kids shouldn’t read or watch the Hunger Games. There are many reasons why kids shouldn’t watch or read the Hunger Games. One of the reasons is that kids probably get scared or disgusted by it. Another reason is that some kids parents don’t let them watch people killing each other because the kids might have nightmares.
In conclusion, I believe that the Hunger Games is an appropriate topic that can and should be taught in the classroom. I feel this way because it is only a story that the author created, no one has ever thought to change the rating of the Hunger Games, and people in real life are just as bad as the fictional
