Introduction
The most consistent thing in the world today is change. Change is inevitable and is good both for individuals and organizations. However, just because everything is different in an organization or at the personal level does not mean that anything has changed. Change can be positive or negative, but unfortunately, change usually brings with it undesirable consequences. Notably, change is often poised upon the less powerful in the society or an organization. One of the organizations that have been heavily affected is the United States army, especially after the September 11 attacks. With the invasion of Afghanistan and months later Iraq, the wars have forced the Pentagon to rethink the ways to fight these wars, how it burns through cash in times of emergency and what it esteems in both its most noteworthy and least positioning officers. One of the major changes in the army was how the United States military fights on the ground. For many years, the United States Army was fighting a fierce and robust insurgency. The army was simply fighting the remnants of Saddam Hussein’s regime. However, the Pentagon has implemented and embraced changes in the war where they are strongly supporting counterinsurgency warfare. As a result, the Pentagon feels that the United States army cannot simply kill their way to victory but rather should focus on winning the hearts and minds of the local people who can support them in the war. However, there are different changes models that can be adopted by organizations depending on the industry and the nature of the change being implemented. In this case, the Pentagon decided to utilize the Lewin’s change management model to monitor the success of the operation changes (Buono & Jamieson, 2010). According to Lewin, to have a successful change in an organization, the change has to go through three different steps that include unfreezing, change and refreezing. Besides, the management or the leadership of the organization must understand why the change must take place and how the change must take
