We all want to be better communicators. We all have trouble. At least from time to time, expressing ourselves, and understanding what those around us are trying to say. Most people need better communication in Marriage and Relationships. The unnamed narrator and his unnamed wife used to work for a blind man named Robert. In the story it states “Robert 's wife has recently died, and he 's coming to visit the narrator and his wife.” The narrator isn 't happy about this at all but doesn 't speak up to his wife about the situation.His wife and Robert have been corresponding by audio tape for the past ten years. On her last day on the job she let Robert touch her face, then she wrote a poem about it.She showed the prom to the narrator and the didn’t like it.He didn 't like the poem. The success of any relationship relies on the ability to communicate well. Communication is important in all relationships as it allows us to share our interests, concerns, and support of each other. It helps us to organize our lives and make decisions, and it allows us to work together.Effective communication is based on the way we talk and listen, how we respond as well as our body language. We can all learn how to improve the way we communicate because it takes more than words to create a safe, exciting and secure relationship.

Communication is the key to relationships. If the narrator had a problem with the blind man coming over to his house, he should’ve told his wife instead of holding it in. Listening is a vital interpersonal communication skills. When we communicate we spend half of our time listening. Most people take listening for a play , but it is not the same as hearing and should be thought as a skill. Communication can save a lot of relationships.
