It is important that active listening is being used so that the patient feels comfortable talking to you, if they see that you are in another world or if they cannot gain eye contact with you they will feel that they cannot trust you and may feel the need to not speak about their feelings. There are many different forms of communication these include visual, verbal and non-verbal. It is important that people take a look at their own communication skills and how these can be improved. Communication allows us to see things from another point of view; therefore one can get rid of any personal biases. Listening is a gift that should be appreciated, it lets people know what is going on around them in their society, such as people’s problems and struggles. It is not until people start to listen to someone that they will be able to understand that person. Then this enables people to offer support and advice. Again this relates to health care, a nurse or a doctor cannot help a patient for example has symptoms of depression if they do not listen and get to understand that person. (Lyons
