The Curriculum is a programme of study that an institution offers to students. The document specifies the learning experience that the students will be exposed to during the duration of their study. In our schools, it refers to the knowledge and skills students are expected to learn, learning objectives they are expected to meet; the units and lessons that teachers teach; the assignments and projects assigned to students; the learning resources, presentations, and readings used in a course; and the evaluation methods implemented to gauge how much the students have learnt.
In Fiji the curriculum implemented in our schools is called the National Curriculum Framework and is formulated in consultation with the curriculum advisory unit. This portrays inclusivity as all facets of learning from early childhood to tertiary education and vocational are considered in the curriculum making. The advisors include TEST (Technical Employment and Skills Training) which is the advisor for all technical and vocational subjects, CDU (Curriculum Development Unit) which is the advisor for all academic subjects from Early Childhood Education (ECE) to Year 13 and ERC (Education Resource Centre) which produces student-teacher support materials.
Also significant in the curriculum development is the SBU which is responsible for producing student-teacher multimedia support materials and Careers section which advices on tertiary education. Including these groups in the development ensures that a
