EMI in Afghan universities is a positive development
English as a medium of instruction is used as a gateway to connect students to the world. As a part of globalization, the universities in Afghanistan also started to use English as a medium of instruction in the daily curriculum.
In 2012, His Excellency President Hamid Karzai attended a conference in the Kabul University and announced to change the lecture of Medical and Engineering faculties into the English Language to allow the students to learn about the latest in technology in both fields. Mr. President gave the example of Pakistan and India, the two countries who have implied EMI successfully in the universities to provide a chance for students to accomplish their long-term studies inside and abroad. (Lodin, 2012).
The main reason for changing the medium of instruction into English was that all the latest information about medical and Engineering science are in foreign languages and it was tough for students to learn about latest discoveries. Rahima Baharustani (2012) stated in her report that Advance education can be the key determinant of a nation development and it can lay a solid infrastructure for education section of a country. For this purpose to be achieved it is important for students to learn high-quality education that could response to the need of our society and English as a medium of instruction is the best way to prepare students to learn the quality education in the private universities of
