According to Frieden’s pyramid, education and counseling have the lowest impact on a population. Frieden describes education and counseling as the “least effective type of intervention” (Frieden, 2010). I agree with Frieden’s pyramid. The structure of this pyramid shows which intervention method will be most helpful in changing a health behavior. By implementing these intervention methods starting at the base and working up towards the tip, the health behavior in a population can be changed.

INTRODUCTION Life Course Theory (LCT) is an approach to public health which draws from a large variety of disciplines, such as biology, sociology, and psychology, in order to examine how health and disease develop over the course of a lifetime (1). The Children 's Act of 1998 put procedures in place that mean local authorities, courts, parents and other agencies in the United Kingdom have been given specific duties to ensure children are safeguarded and their welfare is promoted. The UK has policies and laws around education, health and social welfare which cover most aspects of safeguarding and child protection. Drug use impacts perception, a skill adolescent brains are actively trying to cultivate, and can fracture developing neural pathways. Additionally, as our brains are becoming hardwired during adolescence, the pathways being reinforced are the ones that stick. If those pathways include addiction, the impact may lead to life-long challenges. As the epidemic of teen non-medical prescription use and abuse increases, we as a nation need to consider solutions that will insure that our children have a future, redoubling our efforts to modernize strategies that will confront the public health problems we are facing pertaining to our youth. Partnership working means that, all agencies and professionals work together to safeguard children. Each professional or agency will have a different role to play but each of them is all as important. Schools can birth healthy habits and behaviors in students’ lives and these effects will be long term.
