Education comes from all that consists of our surroundings: from the language we hear, the sights we see, the things we taste, the emotions we feel, there is not a single moment in time that we are not cataloguing and learning. Howard Gardner, professor of education and adjunct professor of psychology is co-director of Harvard’s Project Zero which is a program fully dedicated to the improving of education in schools by emphasizing creativity in thinking and problem solving. Spatial intelligence (commonly called visual intelligence) is about the ability to see things others can’t. “Visual/Spatial intelligence includes being able to visualize an object and to create mental images. It deals with visual arts, navigation, architecture and certain games such as chess” (Simcoe). Art includes geometric configurations, arithmetic, and chemistry skills that are needed for everyday use. There are many artists that use materials that teach you about certain properties that students may not get a chance to learn in a regular school setting. Also, art includes the use of graphs and number lines, these skills are used in common core; however they are used in a bland comparison to that of the arts. “People who have strong musical intelligence are good at thinking in patterns, rhythms, and sounds. They have a strong appreciation for music and are often good at musical composition and performance. They are gifted with the ability to compose, sing, or play instruments.” (Martinez) They learn best through lectures and often use music and rhythm to memorize things. Careers that often come from high scores in musical intelligence are: musician, singer, conductor, composer, songwriter, music teacher, music director, choir director, or record producer. Let us not forget that music plays a major role in math, memory, and motor function. To say the least music is monumentally crucial to the education of students. To say that music is not essential to education would obviously be blasphemous to say. Other than the reasons that have already been listed music teaches math, memorization, and brings joy into the world that other classes would fail
