When television was created in 1927, nobody could have predicted the sort of impact it would have on the American economy and the influence it would end up having over 80 years later. Consumerism has played a large part in the way television has changed whether it is from what is advertised to viewers or what the viewers want to watch. The attitude of the consumer has shifted drastically towards being cheap and saving as much money as possible in this hard economy. Consumers, now more than ever, are looking to shows and movies to keep them entertained, and they are looking for the most convenient, and cheapest way to do it. It is hard to compete with companies that buy rights to television shows and stream them straight to consumers. Netflix began in 1997, however it did not take off right away. It had to make its start as a different service. It had to set itself apart from Blockbuster and Hollywood video. The creators of Netflix thought of an idea that had never been done before. This was to allow their customers to select videos online and have them mailed to their homes and allow them to keep it as long as they’d like. This was a huge shift seeing as consumers no longer had to leave their homes to go and find movies they had never seen before. As Netflix studied the public and began gaining publicity and notoriety, more shows began selling their rights to Netflix to make more money. Hulu had a different approach. They found shows that would not sell to Netflix (and even some that did/would) and offered to buy the rights to those shows as well. Between the two websites, over 100 series can be found and fully viewed, and thousands of movies can be watched as well. The public demands something like they have never experienced before. With that demand, came the creation of IMAX movies and 3-D movies, and even 3-D televisions. 3-D movies make the moviegoers feel as if they are involved. They get to feel the movie jump out at them and interact with them. As this trend cools down and becomes more common practice, the public’s excitement level with it will fade. IMAX movies are great for experiencing surround sound and for making the viewer feel as if they are right there. IMAX is commonly used with nature movies and documentaries. The high definition an IMAX screen provides amazes the viewer and keeps them entertained nearly the entire time. It is such a new experience people still love to go, but often will not make more than one trip a
