The Korean War took place from June 25, 1950 until July 27, 1953 along the border of North and South Korea. This war was fought physically, mainly using military airfare; their is an aspect of the war that was fought politically. North Korea invaded South Korea in hopes of conquering South Korea and having South Korea be apart of communist North Korea. A major significance of the Korean War was the United States worked to stop the spread of communism and put a millitary base in South Korea for prevention of another war to happen.

Ordinary citizens have no say in government or laws in North Korea. The current political situation in North Korea only benefits and satisfies a very small group of people. North Korea has one of the longest-reigning dynastic dictatorships in the world. A dynastic dictatorship means the succession of rulers from the same family or line. In the late 1960s, the North Korean political system changed from totalitarianism to sultanism; sultanism is a form of authoritarian government characterized by the extreme personal presence of the ruler in all branches of government. Yoon Suk Yeol is the elected president of South Korea. Yoon Suk Yeol has many similarities to any United States president regarding his authority, including declaring war and running their government. The United States does have some control over South Korea’s military if another war breaks out on the Korean Peninsula. Unlike North Korea, people do have a say in government including voting for president. South Korea has received rapid economic growth with its government policies.
