The Ku Klux Klan was founded in 1866 by a group of former Confederate veterans in Pulaski, Tennessee, however in 1920 it made a comeback led by William J. Simmons, a former Methodist preacher. Racism reached its peak in the early 20th century and with that so did the KKK. In the 1920s, Klan membership exceeded 4 million people nationwide. The Ku Klux Klan and racism impacted society by causing widespread fear in minorities with organized crimes, extreme hate towards specific ethnicities, and racial threats.
