The Leprechaun Play Analysis

Story: When I walked in today, the children were just getting inside from independent play. Faith was over by the dress up trying to put on a pair of shoes and a dress. I went over and helped her put them on. Then, Mrs. Sandstrom announced that independent play is over and it was time for story. I helped Faith take the dress off and put her sneakers on. She followed me over to the rug and chose to sit on the boat. All the children had been seated except for Cole. He would not put the toy vacuum away and wandered into the other room. Lindsay started to read the leprechaun story. Michael did not sit, but he listened quietly to the story. While, going into the other room she looked up at me with a big smile and said “We are going to make a leprechaun!” She seemed very excited.She chose a seat. I told her that the first step was to rip up the orange paper. At first she was hesitant and asked for scissors. I ripped one piece off to try and get her to rip it. Once she did rip it, I told her she was doing a good job. After ripping the paper, she decided to put the eyes on first. I held the eye while she squeezed the glue. She put and abundance of glue on the eyes that it flowed over. Next, we put the hat together. I explained to her that the yellow piece was the buckle because she questioned what it was. When the hat was finished she glued it on the leprechaun upside down. After the hat was on she began to glue the hair at the base of the hat and on the chin for a beard. She tried to draw on a smile, but it was more of a straight line. She asked for help. We helped her and fixed it to look like a smile. It was now time for the next project. A froot loop cereal necklace. When Lindsay first put the cereal down Faith said, “Cereal, I want some!” I told Faith we should go wash our hands since she had glue all over them. She followed me into the other room to wash her hands. Cole was in there and Faith said, “He is being bad.” After her hands were all washed we went back into the other room to start her
