In William Golding’s The Lord of the Flies, Jack a malicious leader, is competing with Ralph to obtain total control of the group. Jack’s behavior becomes more aggressive while living on the island. Jack’s deep desire for power overtakes his mind and ends up altering his identity. He develops from a skeptical choir boy to a fearless, confident savage. His transformation emerges while applying war paint to his face. At first, he is dissatisfied with his look and changes it but then, reapplys the paint. He looks into the reflection of the water to see his new appearance blur: “He looked in the pool for his reflection, but his breathing troubled the mirror” (Golding 63). While observing himself in the pool, Jack is unable to identify who he is
