Many causes led to the Civil War in 1861. The US had a new government and Constitution that wasn’t perfect. Nativists were rampant in the south and thought that blacks were inferior to them and should be enslaved. There also was the debate of states right vs. federal rights to determine which government got more power. These 3 causes are some main causes of the Civil War. The Articles of Confederation had failed and they had a new government. Their new document, the Constitution wasn’t perfect. There was a differing of opinions between the north and south. The north’s ideas mainly were based off of the new testament of the bible, while the south’s ideas were based off of the old testament. This created opposition for ideas on laws in the government.
