The Media Has Negatively Affected My Generation

The media has greatly affected my generation through advertising, news, and video games. Not only have the media’s topics and content impacted my generation, but the methods they continue to use to deliver their messages change how we view the world and ourselves. According to Apage (2013), “The nation's 200 most-advertised brands collectively had 2012 measured spending of $50.2 billion, accounting for 36% of U.S. measured-media spending”. This quote is showing that companies in the United States are willing to spend extremely large amounts of money trying to convince people to change something about their life or to buy a product they endorse or produce. The way the companies present media and what they present can have long lasting

The amount of gore in a video game varies directly with the games rating (wikipedia, 2015). Games without gore are sold by companies but the most popular games from 2014 have mild blood and violence. Video games can have a variety of different effects on people. Video games can help with problem solving, decision making, and nimble thinking (Tom Lowery, 2014). Video games can be helpful to your mental health and can lead to negative mental and physical health if not played in moderation. The positive effects of video games can be helpful for the average person in everyday life when doing tasks throughout the day. Video games can also have other effects on a person life. Video games can decrease impulse control but can help increase split second decision making (agencies, 2013). In most video games you reactively play to a predesigned environment or the decisions made by other players in the game, after being the these situations for long enough they reactions you learned from inside the game can transfer to impulsive reactions that may not be appropriate for what triggered the response in the real world. These impulsive reactions can sometimes be extreme over reactions of aggression which can lead to problems in real
