How the Media Portrays an Unrealistic View of the Common Teacher Upon research, scholarly articles present the common teacher in the media as unrealistic, which therefore corrupts the minds of both educators and students. Due to this students will have to cope with the disappointment that their teachers do not fulfill the imagined views of educators conveyed to them because of television and movies. This also leads future teacher to believe that they have an impossible and challenging role to fill. Other adults’ such as, parents of students, may be disappointed in their child’s teacher or classroom because of the false stereotypes in the media. The media shows classrooms filled with tools despite explaining how they got these materials. Texts also show that teachers do not have to follow set guidelines or standards upon teaching. Popular depictions in the media commonly do not show teachers prepping, planning, and checking standards before coming to class. It seems as though these teachers come up with ideas on a whim. In pop culture, producers only want the audience to see the entertaining highlights of a teacher’s day, not how they are following the syllabus. Anne Harris the author of “The Good Teacher: Images of Teachers in Popular Culture” notes that “the “good teachers” in popular culture will often introduce their own curriculum, ignoring what is prescribed...they are also not teaching the National Curriculum of the subject specification” (Harris 16). The media is trying to be entertaining and not based in reality. Most viewers do not want to watch teachers prepare their day instead they want to see the exciting lesson
