The setting is very necessary to support the plot of “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell because without having the story take place where is does, the short story is not believable. To begin, the location of the story is on an isolated island. Rainsford has no way to escape because there is nothing surrounding the island. He can not tell the authorities or anyone who is not on the island because “He was in a picture with a frame of water, and his operations, clearly, must take place within that frame” (11). As Rainsford thinks that to himself, he keeps in mind that he has to use his fortitude to survive on this island and defeat general Zaroff’s “game.” An additional reason on why the location is essential to the plot is the jungle
