When Johnny and Ponyboy needed help they went right to him because they knew he would know what to do, and when they got there Dally immediately gave them a place to go, a loaded heater, and 50 dollars. Dallas also gave Ponyboy a dry shirt to wear because he was wet and cold. Then after a week he came back and took them to eat which shows that he cares because he could have just left them out there alone. Dallas Winston looked past his dislikes many times.
Therefore dally and johnny have some similarities and huge amount of differences. Dally is a mean, aggressive, tough person. He has a record a mile long. He can’t do anything legal, so when he wants to go to the drive in everyone with him has to sneak in. He loves picking fights with people and loves to scare little kids.
After Johnny and the others were hospitalized when they, were helping the school children, Dallas still helped the gang fight against the Socs, even though he was in the hospital. This shows that Dallas was loyal to the gang no matter what happened. Dally could have easily complained about his condition and could have decided to stay behind, but instead he was loyal to the gang. He also helped Johnny and Ponyboy when they were getting the school children out of the church. Dallas could have decided not to help them, and even though Johnny still ended up dying, Dallas helped Ponyboy and prevented him from getting any large wounds.
Dallas Winston, the “Outsider” Ponyboy and his gang are all considered “Outsiders” but there is one greaser from their gang that stands out the most with the title of “Outsider”. Dallas Winston is a hoodlum from New York who had been arrested many times since he was 10 years old. His parents weren’t around when he was growing up, and this really affected his life because he didn’t have anyone to tell him what to do. The author chose this title for the book because she wanted to give an immediate example of how the greasers were treated back then. In the novel The Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton, there are many characters that could be considered “Outsiders”; but Dally is the biggest “Outsider” in the story.
Dallas Winston’s Turbulent Life When people are born, they are born into the world without any bias towards others. Whether they are murderers, saints, or an everyday people; their experiences determine the kind of person they will become in the future. For Dallas Winston, one of the main characters from the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, his experiences caused him to have a Dally’s childhood experiences shaped the person he became in many ways. One of the main experiences from his childhood was the way his parents treated him.
Dally A rock-hard hood who never backs down from any challenge. Dally is a character in the book “Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton. The Outsiders is a book where a ragtag group of greasers band together and overcome victories, tragedies, and above all, build an even stronger bond of brotherhood. This story begins in the town of Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Ponyboy(our main character) is walking home from the movies and gets ambushed by a large group of Socs(Sociables-the “popular/rich” clique).
Emily McCord Karr Composition 1 21 April 2023 The Exploration of the effects of Violence through Dallas Winston "The Outsiders'' follows the coming-of-age story of Ponyboy Curtis, a 14-year-old member of the Greasers, and his fight to survive in the streets of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Tensions brim between the Greasers, a poor gang struggling in the worst part of town, and the Socs, a wealthy gang from the Southside. Both sides viciously lash out; attacking, stalking, and plotting against the opposing gang. Dallas Winston, more commonly known as Dally, is the toughest Greaser.
In the novel, the Outsiders, S.E Hinton portrays all characters except of Dally with very straightforward personalities because, as the book ends, the readers are able to see the unexpected. Dally’s tough and fearless personality appeared more like heroic and emotional as we conclude the novel. Besides, we readers we’d always pictured Dally like any other hoodlum but as we see him face real-life situations and his gestures towards them, we are genuinely taken away by his new character. We start to realize, how all this while it was Dally’s life experience that seemed to have chosen the path for him, which is why the person inside of him never had the chance.
Even though he has done some really bad things, he still has good inside of him. Dally is a great example of how no matter what your background is you can still commit an act of heroism. The best example is when during the fire in the church, a falling timber hits Johnny and Dally runs in to save him. One of the teachers of the kids that Ponyboy and Johnny saved, describes Dally’s action like this. “He burned one arm pretty badly… trying to drag the other kid out the window.”
Ponyboy’s Differences with Dally In the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, a greaser named Ponyboy spends a fair amount of time fending off a rich gang called the Socs. He relies only on his greaser brothers and friends to stay safe and live life. Dally is Despite both being greasers, Ponyboy is an honest, To begin with, Ponyboy is young and innocent, but Dallas is experienced and hard.
Have you ever met someone that risked his life for a friend? That’s Dally in S.E. Hinton’s, The Outsiders novel. He risked his life to save his friend’s life. He is a really good friend, he has some weaknesses and some strengths. These are some strengths about Dally.
Dally is good looking and has a few soft spots. Ponyboy once said that, “He had an elfish face, with high cheekbones, and a pointed chin, small, sharp animal teeth, and ears like a lynx.” (Hinston 10) He also mentions how white his blond hair looks and how blue his cold eyes were. Although controversial, that description can be attractive to some.
Dally protects Johnny because he cares for him. This is a similarity between two very opposite type of people. Johnny and Dally also have many differences, for example, Johnny and Dally give different advice to Ponyboy in the novel. Dally is a tough guy and does not get hurt.
Dally is not strong mentally (when he couldn’t let Johnny go), he really does not do good deeds, and he does not care about any other people than only Johnny, and he’s rude to others and bad at using words. A quotation that supports my statement is, “What for? Get back in here before I beat your head in.” (p.90) This quotation supports my statement because Dally said this to Ponyboy when he hopped off the car and said to see what the deal is when he saw the old church on fire, it proves that Dally does not care about other stuff that does not involve him and that he’s rude to others and using
(1.48) After Johnny died, Dally makes an enormous sacrifice that took away his life. He loved Johnny so much that he couldn't take the fact he was gone. Dally was known to be the most cold-blooded member of the gang but after Johnny's death, he was the one who showed the most affection. Dally wouldn’t have been shot if he didn’t love Johnny so much, and sacrificed himself.
