The Outsiders Compare/Contrast Essay We just finished reading and watching the movie “The Outsiders” in English. There are more similarities between the book and the movie than any other movie and book. It even has some exact wording from the book in the movie. That is why I believe that they have the most similarities than differences. While there are some similarities between the book and the movie, the differences are much more apparent. Some of these differences that only the book has are Pony was given a chance to bring his grade up. In the book and only in the book does the English teacher gives Ponyboy Curtis a chance to bring up his grade due to hard times. Another thing that only happens in the book is that Sodapop has a girlfriend named Sandy and is mentioned a few times in the book. Some of these many differences are first Pony is shown writing in a journal which isn’t mentioned in the book. Only in the movie do they not ask for directions to find the church. When Pony and Cherry go get popcorn at the movies it shows two boys getting kicked out for fighting is another difference between the movie and the book. In the movie Dally doesn’t burn his arm from rescuing the kids from the burning church is one of the many differences that makes the movie unique. Another difference that the movie has from the book is they don’t stay after at the hospital to answer questions that reporters have. Another thing that makes the movie unique is that after seeing that Johnny died, Dally runs off and robs a store. Pony not getting beat up in the movie is another difference that makes the movie unique. Another difference is that the movie didn’t have a court case for Pony. Those are some of the many differences that the movie had and the book
