Imperialism can be defined as an action of a nation taking over a land by force. This era lasted from the mid 1800’s to the late 1800’s. During this era, Europeans main motives were to strive for more political power and more land in this territory. This was easy for the European nations to take over Africa’s land because of the Berlin conference. This conference made it easier to split up lands in Africa for different nations to conquer Africa. Although this era remains in the past, there were both positive and negative impacts as a whole for imperialism and Africa itself.

During imperialism, there were positive impacts, including safety and jobs. One positive impact from imperialism is that it gave out new jobs in Africa. This was a great cause for Africa; the colonial powers had the choice to open up the regions for new types of jobs. Because they insisted on it, jobs such as plumbers, miners, and planters were appearing. Another positive effect was that it provided safety for everyone. A negative impact that occurred is that Africa's land was taken over by the European nations. This is a negative impact because not only the land was being taken away by force, resources such as minerals were all now owned by the Europeans. This made the native people living in this continent obey their rules and work for them. Another negative impact was that the colonies were a huge financial drain. This effect is negative because when colonies were trading with Italy, they racked up approximately 5,561 million lire. During 1894-1932, the colonies stacked up 6,856 million lire, which was also 1% of the foreign
