Oncologists are respected medical professionals who specialize in diagnosing and treating cancer. Similar to other professions, there are different types of oncologists who treat cancer in different ways. For instance, a surgical oncologist performs surgery in order to remove existing tumors to reduce the patient's risk of death. They also work together with physicians and other oncologists to consider the risks of performing surgery, to recognize the stage of cancer and if it has spread to other regions of the body. Medical oncologists treat cancer using chemotherapy while radiation oncologists treat cancer by exposing the patient to radiation, and screening (i.e biopsies, x-rays etc.). Several oncologists are employed by hospitals, clinics, or may even have their own private practice. The job of an oncologist is very complex and is a huge responsibility to undergo.
