Eagerness to learn, attention to details, and willingness to put in required effort and time, all qualities I wish to continue to practice as a student in AP English 12. As a student of organization and willingness to participate in classroom discussions and interactions, I believe those attributes of me as a student set me up for success in this class. My enthusiasm in learning has been a leading factor in my decision to apply for this rigorous course my senior year. While there are other options available this is the course best suited for me due to my attention to details and readiness to dedicate time and effort into this class. Leadership was taught to me as an eighth-grader when I lost one of the most important people in my life, my grandpa. My grandpa was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2014. I set aside my personal life to be by his side at whatever cost. I attended each and every prayer held for him. I spent countless nights in awkward waiting room chairs.
Since my last application, I have earned Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) degree from Boston. The program was an excellent resource to gain insight into the US healthcare system. Learning from highly intellectual professors, I am now fully aware of the administrative field in healthcare, be it the role of various stakeholders such as physicians, insurance companies or patients, to the legal and financial aspects. Furthermore, I applied the skills learned to my internship and current job at a health center. Working in the healthcare industry also led me to various resources that are crucial to integrate oral health care with primary care.
For my interview, the aging individual is a person I have known my whole life. Though she is not blood related, she is considered family, and an important person in my life. I chose her because I have seen her go through the aging process in a positive, and inspirational way. She has defied the norm that a woman needs a man in her life, yet she has lived her life without being in a single relationship. I have structured this interview to make it more like she is telling me her story.

Unlike others, I spent my childhood in my grandpa’s neuro science research lab. Grandpa was a neuro surgeon and sparked my early interest in the field of neurology. Everyday after school, I would dive into Grandpa’s welcoming arms, learning my way around mysterious machines, equipment and cages of various lab animals. I could never forget the thrill when I conducted the first experiment under grandpa’s guidance. Fixing the mouse in a transparent container, turning off all the lights, positioning the scanner at the right angle, finally, I used light as stimulation and then the mouse’s visual cortex lit up like a charismas tree on the scanner.
I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a graduate degree in mental health counseling afterwards. I believe mental health is a subject important for individuals to be aware of. Mental health includes emotional, psychological, and social well-being of individuals. How we take care of ourselves in these aspects can affect us. After learning about systemic and community issues that adolescents face, I am eager to work in the field of adolescent development. My next step in working towards my passion of assisting communities, families and youth is to obtain a PhD in Developmental Psychology from the University of Michigan. Everyone has a purpose in life. Your purpose is based off your values, strengths, and interests. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” By my assessment, the best way to make yourself useful to society is to have a purpose.
WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL HEALTH GOAL? My personal health goal is to plan and consume a more nutritious food. At the moment I am eating very unhealthy food and drinks, such as Burger King and McDonalds. I want to have this new diet because I have been gaining a lot of unwanted weight that I never had a few years ago.
The world of informatics is an intricate and captivating field that I think it is not just useful, but rather essential to modern society's life. It is a subject that necessitates skills such as analytical, mathematical and logical thinking. Creativity is also required: in fact, inventiveness is a determining factor when it comes to solve problems, explore new pathways and give projects a personal touch. Nigeria is a country in West Africa that has immense human and natural resources; however, the country still has one of the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the world. It is also a country that is in dire need for innovative healthcare solutions for its rising population. Obtaining my MPH from the University of Alberta’s School of Public Health, an institution that is undoubtedly in the forefront of innovative and cutting edge teaching platforms for healthcare professionals will give me the tools to pursue my passion in public health. There is a huge difference in the availability and delivery of healthcare in developed and developing countries.
Personal statement Most people knew exactly what they wanted to be "since they were five". I never had a specific idea of who or what I wanted to be when I was that age and I certainly didn’t have a passion for English. In fact I wasn’t able to read or write until I was the age of seven, despite being at a disadvantage I used that as incentive to work twice as hard as the other students. However my interest for English literature only truly started to blossom at the age of thirteen when my sister lent me one of her book series.
