Personal statement Most people knew exactly what they wanted to be "since they were five". I never had a specific idea of who or what I wanted to be when I was that age and I certainly didn’t have a passion for English. In fact I wasn’t able to read or write until I was the age of seven, despite being at a disadvantage I used that as incentive to work twice as hard as the other students. However my interest for English literature only truly started to blossom at the age of thirteen when my sister lent me one of her book series. Instantly I became enticed and mesmerized with the plot and the innovative character development, which led me to finish the 6 book series within a week. Since then I spend the most part of my spare time reading and collecting books. Teaching and guiding others with English encouraged and forced me to improve on my own weakness within the subject, furthermore doing this developed my communication skills. Additionally I maintained a part time job and Waitrose which was not only an opportunity for work experience but was a catalyst for improving my time management and organization skills. Furthermore I was a part of the S.T John ambulance cadets, this experienced strengthened my commitment skills as I had to attend every week. First joining cadets I was put in a situation where I didn’t know anyone however due to my confidence I was able to adapt to my environment and make friends quickly, I feel as though this skill is a necessity for university as I will be in a similar situation on a larger scale.
